We don’t nearly have enough people dying mid-flight for any serious involvement by these good folks.
Why is it that people have to die in droves for anyone in office to feel motivated? Is that what it takes?
In keeping with Lewis Black‘s modest proposal to take the entire Bush administration for an afternoon of electroshock “Just to get ’em back on track”, I propose a taking everyone heading the FAA out for a few flights on the very planes they don’t seem to give a damn about.
Nothing like a near-catastrophic decompression to jog that personal responsibility back up to par.

I don’t know what you thought of the movie or its maker, but I found the interviews with Congressmen in “Fahrenheit 9/11” to be extremely amusing for this exact reason. They were all gung-ho about sending America’s troops into harm’s way to combat terrorism, but God forbid their own children – or even themselves – be sent out there.
Until that happens, until the people calling the shots are actually shot at, they just can’t be bothered.
And that’s really the sad part… It has to happen to them or someone they care about for them to feel any sense of personal responsibility.
Really disgusting.
