Obama on a Food stamp?!

Yet more embarrassment from the Republican party. Why do they even bother hiring these people in the first place? I appreciate the fact that certain Republicans are finally standing up to this nonsense.

This would have been funny if it weren't so tragic.

This would have been funny if it weren't so tragic

According to the L.A. Times :

“A Republican women’s club in San Bernardino County sent out a recent newsletter with a photo of Barack Obama surrounded by fried chicken, watermelon and ribs, sparking widespread outrage and rebuke from GOP leaders and Democrats.”

Her excuses :

“I apologize to anyone who was offended because that was not my intent”

And…

It was just food to me. It didn’t mean anything else.

… According to Press Enterprise.

a) You have to be a blithering idiot to not realise the specific foods mentioned have intimate ties to racism in American culture.

b) You have to be a blithering idiot to pull this stunt when your own party is desperately trying to win the hearts and minds of minorities (some of whom are present in your own organization).

c) You are a blithering idiot… And a bigot. Which is the worst kind out there, since you don’t even seem to realise what it is you’ve done.

Of course the Obama folks have their own nasty attacks at Palin… But my God!

  1. I’ve seen my share of attacks from all sides, but I have never, EVER, seen anything this repulsive from any offical organization representing the current running mates.

Even the Clinton camp’s shenanigans never reached these depths. Heck, I watched the whole video of the Jeremiah Wright sermon and even he never went this far. In fact, I was more upset at how excerpts were taken from that video and shown out of context by certain networks just to blow it out of proportion.

I really am shocked and appalled by the lack of denouncement from the Palin camp on this. On top of that, it seems Palin rallies attract the worst kind of ignorance out there and they don’t seem at all perturbed.

  2. The Republican party, at least in my opinion, has become synonymous with bigoted religious fundamentalists who have a with-us-or-against-us mentality regarding every single issue we face. I certainly know of many exceptions (some of my closest friends included), and I recognize that only the most inflammatory folks appear most often in the news, but ever since the Bush administration took office the sheer numbers of these folks seems to have increased exponentially.

These are all my opinions and are certainly subject to correction. In fact, please prove me wrong, I beg you, because this perceived trend is extremely alarming.

  3. I wish I could prove you’re wrong. Sadly, I can’t.

A majority of racists were in the Democratic party prior to the civil rights era.

But LBJ, a Democrat, ended up signing the civil rights act. This was one of the turning points.

Over time, the racists have switched sides to the Republican party as Democrats gained favor with minorities.

Now we think the past is the past, but apparently, some things are still the same. I think the Internet has made it near impossible to hide these incidents any more. It may not be the frequency of occurence that’s rising, but the frequency of reporting…

Many Republicans are the way they are because their families have switched at some point in the past. It’s become tradition to stay within family political loyalties which is why some Republican families (particularly those with low income) tend to make baffling decisions with their vote.

I.E. Vote for a politician that will end up making their lives that much harder just because they vote for their values instead of their own best interest and future.

But it seems the Repbulicans are trying really hard to get rid of this image. Unfortunately, these idiots aren’t making it any easier for them.

  4. Interesting. I never realized the history behind the shift in racism and bigotry from one party to another. I figured it was more along the lines of “conservatism generally implies older folks which generally implies higher concentrations of racism and bigotry from decades gone by”.

Something else I’ve noticed about a lot of the hardest-core voters (in both camps) is that they seem to find one single issue to support / condemn a candidate on. Some of the most passionate Palin/McCain supporters (Exhibit A: the video in your previous post) support who they do because Palin comes from a conservative religious background. End of story.

Or they hate Obama because he’s black, so they go with Palin.

Or they SUPPORT Obama because he’s black.

But good luck getting any word out of them about any of the other issues facing this country! Nope, Palin is filled with the holy spirit, so she’s the only one worthy to be (vice) president! Obama is going to make the US a socialist country, so support McCain/Palin! etc etc etc

I have an idea. I’ll move to Australia.

  5. These outrageous ad’s and things that people are putting out against Obama is down right ignorance. Now yeah we like chicken, ribs, all that, but so does the ones that published it. They want us to feel bad cause of what we eat. Shame on them for thinking, thinking that we even care. What does God tell you in the good book. When you are close to glory, the promises of His blessing the evil one sends out his troops to try and get us angry, really just for us to act the way they have told us we will act NO MORE! I’m adding this blog to say, put him on a food stamp if you want we don’t care. CAUSE WE ARE GOING TO PUT HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE! Now all my fried chicken eating people lets all say in the good words are parents taught us when we were children, and other kids picked on us for whatever reason they could think of……SO! Go all the way Obama we got your back!
